Everette J. Freeman was named the eighth president of Albany State University on September 7, 2005 and officially took office on October 10. His appointment by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia marked the culmination of an intensive and broad search. An eminent scholar and admired strategist, he is a leader in higher education and is well-known for his commitment to equity in the academic community.
